8 Fun Activities for the Spring

After what has been a trying winter for most of us, Spring has finally arrived! Longer days and better weather mean it’s time to take our first tentative steps outside and have some fun! Here are eight suggestions for fun things to do in the spring.

1. Get close to nature

Go for a stroll along the beach, in the countryside, your nearest botanical garden or even just a walk around your local neighborhood admiring other people’s blossoming plants and flourishing foliage. Walking is a great way to get in shape for Summer.

2. Read a book

Take time out from spring cleaning and curl up with a good book. Explore a genre you have never explored before. Find a sunny corner of your home or sit on the porch swing in your back yard.

3. Go “window-shopping” at your local garden center

This is the time to replenish your annual flowering plants. Thinking of making a change in the garden? Garden centers are a great place to find inspiration. You might even find a pineapple broom for a good price.

4. Take in a movie

We can’t always count on lovely weather in springtime. If it’s raining on your weekend, why not catch up on this year’s Oscar-winning films?

5. Play with eggs

You don’t even need to boil or dye them. Just grab a friend, a basket of eggs and a couple of aprons or other protective clothing. Stand a few steps apart outdoors and start playing catch with one of the eggs. After a few throws, each player should take a step back and continue throwing. This gets harder and harder as you get farther and farther apart. The loser is the one who drops the egg. They get to make lunch – omelettes, of course!

6. Geocaching

The lastest global craze is a 21st century take on Hide and Seek. Right now, there are more than two million active geocaches and six million geocachers all over the world. How does it work? To take part, simply hide an object, identify its GPS coordinates using your SatNav and share them on the official geocaching website. There’s even an app for it!

7. Make a hanging basket

Stuck with a roomful of bored kids on a rainy afternoon? Put those idle hands to work making a hanging basket to hang out when the weather is nice again. This is where that trip to the garden center will come in handy!

8. Go to a baseball game

It doesn’t have to be a major league game. Go out and cheer your local high school of Little League team. Eat hot dogs and apple pie.
