Ear Tabs 101: The Types & Why They’re Important

If you own a wig, you have surely seen the ear tabs on the sides of the inner cap. Perhaps you’ve noticed them but never knew their purpose– and maybe you’ve always wondered if they even have a purpose at all. Well, we’re here to answer all of your burning questions about ear tabs!

The types of ear tabs:
-Velvet
-Polyurethane-lined
-Open
-Closed

Ear tabs exist to help position wigs properly on your head. You can use ear tabs when adjusting your wig to sit further forward or backward on your forehead and use them as a guide to ensure the wig is placed evenly on your head. The ear tabs should sit at an even distance from your ears on both sides.

Some types of ear tabs, which we’ll reveal below, have the added benefit of molding to sit more flush with your head. Other tab types offer features like comfort and easy adhesion. Keep reading to learn more about the types!

Velvet ear tabs:
- Softest tab type with luxurious comfort and velvety smoothness
- Reduces itchiness
- Metal or plastic adjusters that mold to lay flush with your face

Polyurethane-lined ear tabs:
- Non-slip for extra security on the head
- Metal or plastic adjusters to lay flush with your face
- Best type to use with adhesive tape

Open ear tabs:
- Most comfortable for wearing glasses
(glasses tip: put your glasses through the holes of the tabs to keep them secure and comfortable)
